Since I was a young child I have enjoyed being an explorer in the outdoors. From family camping trips at a young age to joining the military, my life has always been about adventure. I have been blessed during my 20 years with the Canadian Armed Forces to have traveled the world to some of the most remote places.
From the most northern reaches of Canadian soil, the roof of Antarctica, and to the Registan Desert in Afghanistan, I have been living comfortably in some of the most inhospitable regions in the world.
Focusing my career on mountain operations, I enjoy escaping to the immense places that put life into perspective. I am qualified in several specialty fields with international military and civilian training as a ski instructor (Nordic and Alpine), avalanche trainer and adviser, first aid instructor and wilderness first responder, and advanced mountain operations instructor. As an ORCKA qualified canoe trip leader I get to enjoy teaching new people skills that really give confidence and enjoyment on the water.
When not out in the wild spaces I enjoy working on our homestead with our two children, collection of pets, and of course our bees.
Originally from BC my childhood revolved around seeking adventure, whether it was in the forest behind my house or the lakes and rivers surrounding my town. Gold panning, fishing, foraging and camping were staples for family activities.
I have served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 28 years and have deployed to the Arctic, Balkans, Middle East and Afghanistan. Extensive travel has blessed me with the opportunity to learn the value of our diverse world and appreciate the value of connection with local cultures and environments.
As a logistics specialist I have experience in all aspects of operational planning, execution, and command. At Off Trail I focus on camp management and as an ORCKA qualified canoe trip leader I run the women only trips.
I enjoy backpacking, canoe tripping, stand up paddle board, camping of course, rock climbing and mountaineering. I am into the local food scene and enjoy a homesteader’s lifestyle raising our quails, chickens and recently added bees to the mix.
My life has been spent in the pursuit of adventure, and the Canadian Army has offered me opportunities that I could not have imagined. Having been a professional soldier for over 15 years, I have reveled in the chance to travel and experience the world.
Though my permanent home has been in Ontario, I have climbed in the beauty of the Rockies and Coast Mountains, snorkeled off the coast of Africa, been SCUBA diving in Thailand, hiked along the Tennessee Valley Divide, spent weeks skiing the plateaus of Norway, and safaried through the great game parks of Kenya.
In addition I have spent years of my life in the harsh environment of Afghanistan, from the heights of the Salang Pass, to the heat of the Registan Desert. I have lived, worked, and played in almost every environment on the planet, and am continually inspired by the beauty of our world.
I was previously certified as a street and wilderness Emergency Medical Technician, with the US National Registry. In my spare time I take part in ethical hunting practices, work in my apiary, and look after two fantastic large breed dogs.
